The Family of God?

Question: Which seems more like a family to you:

1) A lone Father and his son, all alone, with no mother, and a bunch af brothers and sisters in some catatonic comatose sleep state
2) A Father, mother, brothers and sisters who are always celebrating feast days and birthdays, and come together every day to break bread at their Father’s table?

The Catechism Of The Catholic Church speaks about the "supernatural appreciation of faith (sensus fidei)" as a "characteristic" of the "body of the faithful". Catholics and protestants can sling Bible quotes all day, but when I put all the scriptures aside for a moment, my "sensus fidei" tell me that number 2 (above), which is the Catholic view of the Church, is far more loving and familial than number 1 (above), which is the barren, stripped down vision of my seperated brothers and sisters, the protestants.

So, which choice, 1 or 2, seems more like a family to YOU ?

Any good books to read?

"Rather than love, than money, than faith, than fame, than fairness… give me truth." – Chris McCandless added to Thoreau’s original quote.

Ive been reading pretty much every book I could possibly find out Chris read and I’ve really begun to get Chris’ perspective on life. At first I thought he was just some arrogant rebel with no cause… but the movie and book are two different stories completely (to me at least). I think the movie makes him look like some 21st century teenage idol, rebelling against mom and dad and proving he can live however he pleases, with just the essentials. But after reading Jack London, Leo Tolstoy, Thoreau, and so on; these authors (and Chris) have changed my life and I have grown a new appreciation for what I have and just for being alive. Why is it though some people can’t just sit back and for one second close off their opinions and thoughts and listen, share, compromise ideas and thoughts.

Anyways Im looking for a new book to read, any good ideas? I’m into pihlosophy (obviously), I heard something about Language in Thought or something along those lines, any ideas?

A note of appreciation for our Muslim brothers and sisters?

I have only been coming here a short while. But I am so impressed with the patience, tolerance, and wisdom I see expressed by so many of the Muslim contributors to Yahoo Answers. I just want to acknowledge my respectful gratitude for that. I know it cannot always be pleasant here.

The western countries have never known you well enough. In perhaps a small but very meaningful way, you are helping to change that.

You are a blessing to us.

(I am personally "mostly Buddhist"; I have been deeply enriched by Islamic teachings–mostly through reading–especially the stories and poetry of the world’s great Sufi teachers … Rumi, Attar, Ibn Arabi, Rabia…)

Since this is supposed to be a "Question & Answer" forum, I will invite a question:

What do you most wish that non-Muslims had a better understanding of in regards to yourself and your faith?

Where Religion Went Wrong – Sam Keen

Complete video at: fora.tv Sam Keen, author of In the Absence of God, explores what he believes is the fallacy of organized religion by tracing the five evolutionary stages through which most have progressed. “We have to find the story that is everybody’s story,” he says.”The essence of religion is a series of primal experiences, which belong to us only because…we share the human condition.” —– As global residents within a culture of fanaticism, materialism, and greed, is it possible to bridge our differences and dwell in harmony in the twenty-first century? Celebrated author Sam Keen believes that a new understanding of the role of religion in our lives is essential for such a transformation. And that nothing less than our existence hangs in the balance. In In the Absence of God, Keen offers a provocative critique of the present state of religion and leads the way down a new path — one of renewal for us and our troubled society. By recovering the experience of the sacred, Keen argues, we may renew our own relationship with God and discover the religious commonality we all share, ending bridging differences that have divided Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, and others. What does religion offer us in today’s world? How has religion failed us? Must we choose between religious fundamentalism and atheism — or is there a hopeful alternative? How can religion address the challenges and violence we face every day? Keen reminds us that the answers to these questions

Satan’s Letter of Appreciation to YOU!

If the first part of this video speaks to you in any way, then you need to stick around and hear the second part. If you know someone, especially those who do not know Jesus, then please share this video with them. I know that it can be tough some days, but as Christians, we must always be on guard not to let the enemy of God have influence in our lives. Satan lives for the goal of trying to get you to move further away from Jesus. And he’s so slick, that he does it in the smallest ways, often undetectable to us until we’ve already given in to the sin. Stand firm in the Faith of Jesus, our one TRUE MESSIAH!!! narrated by: www.youtube.com Please visit their channel. They make some AWESOME videos!!!
