Can the devil high-jack prayers? How can you distinguish promptings from God with those of those of the devil?

More than once I think I’ve gotten a miracle answer to prayer and it turned out to be something bad instead.

Many times I’ve gotten a prompting to do something which appeared good and I thought was from God only to find out that it seemed to go no-where and be a waste of time, and energy and cost me dearly (most recently 3 miscarriages).
Thanks for all those giving serious and thoughtful answers.

Those who want to name-call need to get a life and not hang out on the religion site.
Thanks everyone for your thoughtful answers, kindness and help. It’s hard to choose. I especially appreciate Mikey’s answer and God’s Grace’s answer (especially the Bible references). Since I have to choose, I think that Mikey’s gets to the point that people can temporarily disrupt God’s will but not his ultimate will (see Leslie Weatherhead’s "The Will of God). Still the choice is hard and ultimately theological. Thank you all for your kindness and help. I wish that one of you or all would answer my ? about the devil incarnate.
